There have been a lot of attacks on trans people lately. Some public, some intimate, some verbal, some physical. Hate was thrown at my site today, We Happy Trans, and a dear friend, Janet Mock. I’m not yet sure what I will do. I do not want to give these people attention, and yet I cannot abide an unprovoked assault on my family.
Tonight, rather than stewing in hate, I made this picture, a reminder to myself of the many amazing people in my life, many of whom are out trans people, all of whom are allies.
Those who trade in hate hide their faces. They cower in corners. We are living and loving loud and proud. They are defined by who and what they exclude, we by who is embraced, welcomed, protected. They take down. We build. And I am far from tired.
